The word Reiki (ray-key) is the Japanese word for universal life energy and is a form of natural healing, rediscovered in the 19th century by Dr Usui.  Reiki helps to rebalance the energy within the cells in our body that can go out of balance due to illness, stress and negative thinking.

My journey with reiki started over a year ago and has transformed me, and my approach to my own wellbeing and way of life, in a positive and wonderful way.

What is Reiki?

A universal energy surrounds us, and it is this energy that is channelled through the practitioner’s hands into the client. All of us are capable of offering reiki healing once trained and attuned. It is a non-intrusive form of healing that has no negative side effects.

What happens during a reiki session?

The client lays comfortably on a therapy couch in a calm and relaxing treatment room. Reiki can also be given to a client in a sitting position, or standing, if need be.

The therapist will then place their hands over, or on, the client’s body, in different places, such as the head, neck, stomach, knees and feet. Each hand position is held for between 3 to 5 minutes, depending on the reiki healing required by the needs of each client. Each complete reiki treatment last between 45 to 60 minutes.

What may the client feel during a reiki treatment?

Each client experiences a different range of feelings during their treatment, ranging from deep relaxation, a deep sense of calm, or a general feeling of wellbeing. Some clients have been known to drop off to sleep, waking up feeling very rested and positive. During the treatment, the client may feel a tingling feeling, a heat, or even a cool feeling where the therapist’s hand are held.

What can Reiki help with?

Reiki has a positive effect on all types of conditions and illnesses, such as anxiety, stress, headaches, migraines, and more serious conditions and illnesses such as cancer, chronic pain, IBS and fatigue syndromes.  It can also help during IVF.
