Low Self Esteem, Low Self Confidence


Low self confidence can have a big affect on your every day life as it can limit you in what you do or what you would like to do. Having little belief in your own abilities can limit greatly what you hope or dream of doing in your life. It may be that you would love to move jobs or change career but this little voice inside of you telling you that you are not good enough to do that can stop you from achieving what you can if you just had self confidence. The word “confidence” comes from the Latin word to trust or have faith. To be able to trust or have faith in your own abilities enables you to lead the life that you want or choose to. It enables you to make choices and decisions in your personal, professional or private life that are right for you and lead to a happy and fulfilling life. It is about how you portray yourself, how others see you, and how and what you achieve.

Poor self confidence can therefore hold you back in many areas of your life and can make you feel quite miserable, like you are letting yourself down and not quite achieving what you really want to.


Self esteem is all about who you are deep down, how you feel about yourself, your own relationship with yourself. Your own beliefs and perceptions about yourself are formed as you grow up, as you go through different life experiences. These can include bullying in the work place or at school, poor relationships, trying to live up to peer group expectations or parental expectations, or an absence of praise, interest or affection. If you have poor life experiences as a child these can have a detrimental affect on your life as an adult.

Using Psychotherapeutic Counselling to explore the possible root causes of low self confidence or low self esteem will then enable you to address these.
